Glory Harvester Church History

Glory Harvester Church was founded by the late Bishop Robert L. “Jackey” Beavers in August 1987. The Church was birthed from the scripture in John 11: 40 which states, “If thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the Glory of God.” The church body began with seven members and the first service was held on the first Sunday in October 1987 at the Elizabeth Street Courthouse.

The original church motto was – “Harvesting Souls For The Kingdom Of God” … hence, the name, Glory Harvester Church.

Church services have been held in a variety of venues; member’s homes, Stiles Auditorium, 707 South Erwin Street and Mack Eppinger’s Funeral Home. We were blessed to purchase the building at 606 South Tennessee Street. We sold that building and on Easter Sunday 2001, we moved to 1339 Joe Frank Harris Parkway. This mobility did not stop the excitement of people coming and serving God.

On August 7, 2005 by God’s wonderful provision, Glory Harvester Church moved into a new building at 1988 Joe Frank Harris Parkway. With a permanent location, we are blessed to have many new members and ministries. This location was declared as Holy Ground. Many souls have been saved and lives changed for the better.

On Saturday, April 20, 2002 Min. Gloria Beavers was ordained as Pastor of Glory Harvester Church. During the illness of Bishop Beavers, she continued the work of the ministry, feeding the flock and overseeing the outreach ministries. On October 28, 2008, Bishop Beavers went home to be with the Lord. Following Bishop Beavers death, Pastor Gloria Beavers became Overseer of Glory Harvester.

On January 11, 2009, Min. Charles Fluellen was ordained as Pastor of Glory Harvester Church. Pastor Fluellen continued to build on the foundation that was laid, John 11: 40. His goal was to reach a lost and dying world by being God’s hand extended, teaching the word of God with simplicity and boldness, being led by Holy Spirit, and to complete the unfinished work on this building. Under the leadership of Pastor Fluellen, on August 4, 2011, work was started to enclose the lobby area and Fellowship Hall of GHC with the help of Rev. Randy Livsey, Capharis Mayes, Rev. Bobby Wright, members of Praise Tabernacle Church, and GHC members. Pastor Fluellen continued His work until the Lord called him home on February 25, 2012.

On September 12, 2012, Rev. Dexter Nesbitt was ordained as Pastor of Glory Harvester Church. Under his leadership, new programs and ministries have been added. There has been a tremendous increase in membership and worship services attendance. The current Leadership Members are Elders - Elmer Ellis, Eloise Ellis, Betty Knox, and Bessie Wilkins.
